There’s no place in the world quite like Japan in spring as cherry blooms this time of year and makes the country glow like heaven.

Known as Sakura in Japan, the cherry blossom is one of earth’s most majestic natural wonders for nothing. The pleasure of simply watching the flowers or strolling beneath the sheet of ephemeral petals is ineffable.

Japanese are pretty enthusiastic about this season as well. They even have a custom named “hanami” for this event. The Meteorological Agency in the country provides a dedicated forecast of the season, and people enthusiastically track the movement of cherry blossom known as “sakura zensen” as it moves from south to north in the country.

National Geographic celebrated this occasion in Japan by inviting its community members to send in their best shots of the country’s cherry blossom. People responded and we decided to prepare a list.
