Bonsai trees originated in China at least thousand years ago in ancient horticultural practices. They were revived later in Japan under the influence of Zen Buddhism.

The trick with Bonsai trees is growth-restricting techniques like pruning and wiring branches and restricted use of fertilizers. Nurturing Bonsai tree is tough business, but as can be seen from the pictures here, the efforts are totally worth it!
