There’s a lot of positive that couples can draw from movies about relationships. It might just as well help with the problems they face together as meetings with a counselor. All that’s required is to watch the movie together and discuss how they felt and what they received from it.

Keeping that in mind, we at BeepB decided to handpick ten life-affirming movies that will help you find the right solution when things get complicated. Do vote for your favorite or share your thoughts about them in comments if you have already watched them.

#1 The Notebook, 2004 Buy DVD

Duke reads the story of Allie and Noah, two lovers who were separated by fate, to Ms. Hamilton, an old woman who suffers from Alzheimer's, on a daily basis out of his notebook. This is an exquisitely beautiful romantic story about two lovers who are seemingly completely ill-suited to each other.

#2 Two for the Road, 1967 Buy DVD

One of the best performances by Audrey Hepburnm, this movie is about a couple in the south of France non-sequentially spin down the highways of infidelity in their troubled ten-year marriage. Conceptualized around the idea that the amusing and the sad can often go hand in hand, the movie perfectly reflects the contradictory nature of a shared life with someone we love.

#3 Blue Valentine, 2010 Buy DVD

Dean and Cindy fell in love with each other long ago, but in recent years their feelings have become blunted, and recently have been reduced to almost nothing. All this is told through the little details of their daily lives. But it’s through the little things that we can sometimes remember why it was that we began to love a person in the first place.

#4 5×2, 2004

It's a French movie about a modern French couple told through five episodes in their life together. As the couple officially separate, we see, in reverse order, what went wrong in their relationship.

#5 Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, 1996 Buy DVD

This movie is the adaptation of a play of the same title by Edward Albee and tells the story of George and Martha who can only maintain interest in each other by engaging in psychological games.

#6 Before Sunset, 2004 Buy DVD

Before Sunset is a penetrating story of how, sometimes, people have only a few hours to make the most important decisions of their lives. Before Sunrise and Before Midnight featuring the same characters are equally beautiful.

#7 2 Days in Paris, 2006 Buy DVD

Marion and Jack try to rekindle their relationship with a visit to Paris, home of Marion's parents -- and several of her ex-boyfriends. It tells an interesting tale of lovers from different cultures.

#8 Amour, 2012 Buy DVD

Octogenarian couple George and Anne's happy life comes to a halt, when Anne suffers from a stroke and George must do everything possible to help her recover. Amour is an incredible story about true love and sincere devotion, and how they can accompany us into old age — right into our final years.

#9 Husbands and Wives, 1992 Buy DVD

When Woody Allen is at the helm, you can expect nothing short of brilliance. Through the movie, he tries to answer an important question: can marriage and love always be harmonious?

#10 The Story of Us, 1999 Buy DVD

Ben and Katie Jordan are a married couple who go through hard times in fifteen years of marriage. This movie brilliantly shows how in many cases, no side in a marital conflict is 100% right or wrong.
